Notes	About: Fine copy of ʻIṣām al-Dīn Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn ʻArabshāh al-Isfarāyīnī's (or Isfarāʼīnī) gloss on Jāmī's al-Fawāʼid al-Ḍiyāʼīyah, itself a commentary on the Kāfiyah of Ibn al-Ḥājib, on Arabic syntax. Ends abruptly and appears incomplete. \| Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 131 Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; hand and paper suggests late 17th to mid 18th century. Accompanying materials: Vast number of inserts tipped in (all paginated) carrying glosses and notes, including one decoratively trimmed (pp.49-50) and several tinted yellow (pp.253-254, etc.). Support: European laid paper with 9-10 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 26 mm. apart (horizontal), and watermark resembling initials or word (with "A A" or "A M"), quite difficult to make out (see pp.4, 6, 10, 122, 264, 290, 302, etc.), sturdy, cream in color, well-burnished ; inserts on different papers, one with watermark of lion rampant visible (see insert tipped in following p.46) ; some staining. Decoration: Nearly monochrome (black ink) with very little use of red ; section headings set apart in larger, heavier script ; overlining in same black ink ; occasional abbreviation symbols rubricated ; rare overlining in red. Script: Naskh ; bold Turkish hand ; virtually serifless ; many closed counters ; somewhat freely ligatured ; kāf mashkūlah (mashqūqah) preferred ; alif maqsūrá mainly mardūdah, final yāʼ occasionally muḥaqqaqah, but often mardūdah (in the word fī, etc.); lām alif ligature forms a closed loop ; slight effect of words descending to baseline becomes more pronounced toward middle of the codex ; hand changes slightly around p.196-197, similar in size and form but adopting a more rightward slant and more pronounced effect of words descending to basline, showing greater influence of nastaʻlīq ; section headings in larger heavier script.
