Transcription finished ("qad waqaʻat istirāḥat al-qalam min taswīd hādhā al-kitāb...") in the latter part of Rabīʻ I 1174 H / October 1760. Accompanying materials: Ottoman stamp tucked in between fol.96 and 97 (Western pagination). Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 151. Commentary on Tuhfat al-muluk." Binding: Pasteboards covered in brown leather and worn marbled paper ; once Type II binding (with flap) though flap is now missing (leather burn staining from envelope flap on opening leaf) ; board linings in paper, hinges in lime green silk ; upper and lower covers carry traces of blind-stamped decoration (now obliterated) including central mandorla and cornerpiece, off-center as board was cut down to fit this text block (recycled covers) ; very worn and in poor condition ; repair to upper joint in green textile. Support: European laid paper with 11 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 22-24 mm. apart (horizontal), and watermarks of crossbow (arbalète, see p.6, 8, etc.) and three small hats (tre cappelli, see p.10, etc.), thin and crisp though quite sturdy, bright cream in color, well-burnished to glossy. Decoration: Text rubricated with chapter headings, overlining, etc. in red. Script: Naskh ; Turkish hand in a medium to bold line ; virtually serifless with slight effect of words descending to baseline and of inclination to the left, pointing (for two and three dots) in strokes, point of final nūn fully encircled by bowl. Layout: Written in 21 lines per page ; impression of ruling-board evident. Collation: 18 V (180), VI (192) ; quaternions followed by a sexternion ; foliation in black ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals skipping leaf between ٥٥ and ٥٦ ; catchwords present ; pagination added later in pencil, Western numerals.
