A lengthy table of contents precedes the work, and many reading notes and marginal comments are found throughout. | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 531 Origin: Composition finished ("faraghtu min jamʻih") in Muḥarram 667 [September 1268]. As appears in colophon on fol.153b, copying finished ("tamma al-kitāb...ʻalá yad") by ʻAbd al-Raḥīm ibn ʻAbd al-Karīm ibn Naṣr Allāh al-Jurmī Muḥtadā al-Shīrāzī, on the evening of Friday, the 21st of the month of repentance (shahr al-tawbah) [Ramaḍān], 769 [ca. 10 May 1368]. Accompanying materials: a. Inventory cataloguing slip in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas. -- b. Acquisitions slip from Yahuda -- c. Note in unidentified hand "[...]69 H [...] H/1368 second copy (there are two copies of this ms.)." Former shelfmark: From upper and lower board lining, "IL 105a" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip). Binding: Pasteboards faced in pink coated paper with brown leather over spine (quarter binding) ; Western style binding (though with tight back) ; upper and lower covers carry gold foil stamped floral design ; at some stage sewn over three recessed cords ; stuck on endbands in red and white stripe ; obviously modern binding, not original, separating from text block at spine, revealing a great deal of adhesive. Support: non-European laid paper with roughly 8-9 laid lines per cm. (horizontal, more distinct in some areas) and no chain lines distinctly visible, somewhat cloudy formation, quite sturdy, beige to light brown in color, well-burnished ; added title page on a machine laid paper. Decoration: Section headings and words introducing quotes rubricated ; other words rubricated and overlined for emphasis ; three dots in red to mark text divisions. Script: Naskh ; elegant Persianate hand in a narrow line ; partially seriffed with sharp leftward serifs on many ascenders (even free-standing alif), curvilinear descenders, pointing in distinct dots (two dots occasionally oriented vertically), final kāf often appearing with shaqq, some sweeping descenders ; from fol.107a, ink changes from brown to black, line much thinner with hand slightly smaller though quite similar ; occasionally vocalized. Layout: Written in 27 lines per page. Collation: i, I+1 (3), II+1 (8), III (14), VII (28), III (34), VI (46),10 V (146), V-3 (153), i ; chiefly quinions ; middle-of-the-quire marks appear in the form of oblique strokes in the upper corners of the right-hand leaves at the center of each quire ; catchwords present ; pagination added later in pencil, Western numerals. [?]" appears every few leaves in the margins throughout (e.g. fol. 13b, 25a, 36b, 38b, 40 b, 98b, 100b, etc.) though only twice after change of ink / line (fol. 107a, 108b) ; a statement on the added title page further references the collation by Mawlānā Shams al-Dīn "تنبيه: هذا النسخة الشريفة كتب في عصر المؤلف وقرء عليه مولانا شمس الدين وصححه وقابله" ; an interesting scribal note to test the red ink (probatio pennae or "pen trial") found on fol. 77a "تجرب القلم بالمركب الاحمر."
