Ms. 63 Origin: Origin: As appears in colophon on fol.445a (p.891), copied by Muṣṭafá ibn Sayyidī [Sīdī?] ibn Maḥmūd. Transcription finished ("wa-kāna al-farāgh min hādhihi al-nuskhah al-mubārakah...") 15 Rabīʻ II 985 [ca. 2 July 1577]. Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 47. Commentary on Kuduri." Binding: Pasteboards covered in green to brown leather (spine, interior of fore-edge flap, doublure hinges and turn-ins in red leather) ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in paper (pink-tinted) ; upper and lower covers bear stamped (with red leather recessed onlays) and gold-painted central mandorla with pendants and corner pieces (vegetal design, remotely similar to Déroche class. OAi 10) with stamped and gold-painted roll border consisting of a series of s-shaped stamps ; design carries on to envelope flap where it is much better preserved ; sewn in dark blue thread, two stations ; chevron endbands in red and white, detaching and nearly lost ; in poor condition with flap completely detached, much abrasion of cover designs, lifting of leather, delamination of boards, some leather burn, etc. Support: European laid paper with 12 laid lines per cm. and chain lines (horizontal) spaced roughly 27 mm. apart ; heavy and well-burnished ; angel with hand lifted watermark ; many loose quires. Decoration: Frame consisting of gold band with black fillets surrounds written area on incipit and facing page ; elsewhere written area surrounded by simple rule-border in two red fillets ; text rubricated with section headings, keywords, overlining, etc. in red ; words for rubrication noted in margins. Script: Naskh ; neat Ottoman Turkish hand ; partially seriffed with right-sloping head-serif mainly on lām, occasionally ṭāʼ and other letters bearing vertical shafts, free-standing alif usually left serifless ; effect of slight tilt to the left ; often closed counters ; dot of final nūn often assimilated with bowl. Layout: Written in 23 lines per page ; frame-ruled.
