Ms. 352 Origin: As appears in colophon on p.680, copied by Muḥammad Khayrʹshāhī [?] with transcription completed 15 Dhū al-Ḥijjah 1297 [ca. 18 November 1880]. As appears in preceding 'authorial colophon' (also on p.680), composition supposedly completed in 1059 [1649] in Akbarʹābād (Agra) in the time of Shāh Shujāʻ. Accompanying materials: Scrap of tinted and block-printed paper with excerpts (proverb "الدهر ثلاثة ايام يوم قد مضى لا يعود اليك ويوم انت فيه لا يدوم عليك ..." etc.) in black ink (between pp.436-437). Former shelfmark: "505 T. De M. [i.e. Tammaro De Marinis]" and "۹" inscribed in pencil on recto of opening leaf (serving as flyleaf, p.1) ; "15/6" and "٢٥" (with numeral khamsah looking like reversed B) inscribed in ink also on opening leaf recto (serving as flyleaf, p.1). Binding: Pasteboards covered in dark red leather ; Type III binding (without flap), two-piece binding (seam of overlapping flanges visible at spine) ; doublures in dark gray leather ; upper and lower covers carry blind-stamped scalloped mandorla (filled with vegetal composition) with pendants, as well as tooled border and accents ; sewn in lime green and red (final few gatherings) thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in lime green and light red, good condition (protected by tabs extending from spine leather) ; overall in fair condition with minor abrasion and staining, spine curved and fore edge protruding, etc. Support: European wove paper, dark cream in color, quite well-burnished, thin and crisp though sturdy ; leaves at opening and close (serving as flyleaves) also in highly burnished wove paper but of a lighter color ; breakthrough at frames in leaves carrying p.679-682. Decoration: Keywords, numerals and section headings rubricated (words to be entered in red have been provided in the outer margins, mainly cut off, but in a few instances still visible, see p.41, 42, etc.) ; written area surrounded by frame in "gold" accented with red rules ; margin also surrounded by red rule-border ; overlining in red ; occasional textual dividers in the form of inverted commas ; several diagrams, mainly in red and black (see p.265, 289, 431, 432, 433, 435, 436, 437, 438, 439, 442, 443, 444). Script: Nastaʻlīq ; quite compact, elegant hand ; serifless, with effect of words descending to baseline, closed counters, and elongated horizontal strokes ; Arabic excerpts in a compact naskh. Layout: Written in 25 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: II (4), 42 IV(340), 2 I (344) ; almost exclusively quaternions ; several leaves ruled but left blank (see pp.9-10, 17, 44, 254, 460, 681-682, etc.) or partially blank (likely for diagrams / illustrations never realized, see p.27, 28, 43, 253, 270, 445, 456, 459, 497, 513, etc.) ; twenty pages (p.[]-p.534) ruled for tables but left blank ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes leaves serving as flyleaves at opening and close and skips two pages between pp.515-516).
