Notes
[Combining comprehension in knowing the companions]. The title page gives the illusion that the book is only comprehension, but what is mentioned in: Q235a removes this illusion. He said: This is the last thing that Abu Omar mentioned Yusuf bin Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Abdul-Barr in the book Al-Isti’ab regarding the names of the mentioned Companions (may God bless him and grant him peace). And I have mentioned at the end of every translation of the book Al-Isti’ab the names of a group that Abu Nu’aym Ahmad ibn Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Ishaq mentioned in the Book of Knowledge of the Companions from his classification, and Abu Omar did not mention them, and whenever they come in this book on the authority of my father Naeem is a narration or anecdote, so know that it is not from the book Al-Isti’ab by Abu Omar except in two or three places that Abu Omar mentioned it on the authority of Abu Naeem Al-Fadl bin Daqin, and the red mark was marked on it because no one was suspected. Did you leave out of Abu Naim’s book a mention of those who knew the fathers without mentioning their names? Whoever narrated on the authority of his paternal aunt and was not attributed, and he mentioned those of the Ansar who narrated on his authority and were not named my father, and I found most of them named him in this book in places. Ibn Abd al-Barr's text was presented in a way that was somewhat different from what was mentioned in the copy printed in Hyderabad in the year 1319, and perhaps he summarizes some of it. As for Al-Jami’ by the two writers, we have not verified it. In Al-Tura, the narrator of the book Al-Isti’ab was mentioned, and he is Afif bin Saeed bin Masoud bin Muhammad bin Masoud Abu Al-Hamid Al-Kazrouni, and perhaps it is him, and we have not seen a translation of him. It was suspended by Muhammad bin Imad al-Din Ibn Sharaf al-Din bin Abd al-Majid Subhi in the year 924.
