Ms. codex., Title supplied by cataloguer., Incipit: "بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم هست کلید در گنج حکیم", Explicit: "هزاران درود و هزازان سلام زما بر محمد علیه السلام", Colophon: "Scribal," rectangular, reads: "بتاریخ غره شهر ربیع الاول اتمام پذیرفت فی سنه ۱۲۴۰"., Collation: ii, IV-1(7), 13 IV(111), III (117), 5 IV(157), IV+2(167), 22 IV(343), II (347), ii ; chiefly quaternions ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during cataloguing., Layout: Written in 21 lines per page ; written area divided to four columns to set off poetry ; frame-ruled., Script: Nastaʻlīq ; sans serif ; characteristic descent of words to baseline ; fully pointed to convention., Decoration: On the incipit and facing page for each work, an elaborate double-page opening illumination (ʻunwān) appears, dominated by an illuminated headpiece ; each is unique and exquisitely rendered in varying proportions of lapis lazuli, gold, red, light blue, black, white, pink, and orange ; text is surrounded by gold cloud-bands ; the first two of the ʻunwans/ʻanāwīn (pp. 2-3 and fol.58-9) include a headpiece with dome-shaped central design in a large, framed well over a small rectangular panel with cartouche and an elaborate marginal decoration consisting of a repeating dome-pattern ; all of the figures are covered in a minutely detailed vegetal pattern with tiny flowers ; designs are dominated by gold and lapis lazuli ; the remaining four ʻunwans/ʻanāwīn (pp.226-7, pp.336-7, pp.454-5, pp.612-13) continue the dome-shaped headpiece design (with variations) in the large well with the cartouche in a lower, rectangular panel ; marginal decoration features an unusual, sweeping, elongated, vegetal pattern, executed chiefly in gold over a blank background with variously colored, tiny flowers, and long, golden leaves, slightly varied on each of the four frontispieces ; written area framed in a series of blue and black fillets and heavy gold band ; text rubricated with section titles, colophon, etc. in red. Mancini-Lander)., Support: non-European (Persian) laid paper with 8 laid lines per cm., well-burnished, with what appear to be rib shadows spaced roughly 25 mm. apart ; flyleaves in European laid paper with chain lines (vertical) spaced roughly 27 mm. apart and 10-11 laid lines per cm. (horizontal), watermarks include "ALMASSO" (Heawood 3748) and eagle above horse within scrollwork and initials "G M" and "U B" [?] below ; some ink/pigment burn ; staining (final leaves in particular)., Binding: Pasteboards covered in dark brown leather (pebble-grained appearance of shagreen) ; Type III binding (without flap) ; upper and lower covers carry stamped lobed mandorla, pendants, and corner-pieces with vegetal designs painted in green, red, and pink ; mandorla also features two small birds amid the vines and flowers ; framed with a gold, vegetal pattern that appears to have been painted free-hand ; sewn in yellow thread, two stations, with primaries in red ; a few leaves loose falling out ; worked endbands in white and blue ; largely in good condition with leaves secure, well-preserved design, etc. however spine leather is cracking, splitting and loss of spine leather ; housed in custom box., Origin: As appears on fol.347a (p.693), transcription apparently finished 1st of Rabīʻ I 1240 [ca. 24 October 1824].
