یادداشت‌ها	19th-century Qur’an manuscripts produced in Istanbul and the Ottoman Empire continued many Islamic art traditions, but could not entirely escape the increasing taste for Western aesthetics.Ssingle-volume Qur’ans like this one became increasingly popular and were completed in large numbers. This example – which appears to have remained unfinished judging by the empty title cartouches above the chapters, begins – as is customary – with a lavishly decorated double page, showing – on the right - the first chapter ‘Al-Fatiha’ and – on the left - the beginning of the second chapter ‘Al-Baqara’. Both texts are contained within broad geometric borders and framed with colourful illuminations with vegetal detailing. The remainder of the all in all 114 chapters of the Holy Qur’an are written in black naskhi and red detailing, with 15 lines to each page. As was customary, the verse markers are rendered as golden circles and each page is confined within delicate gilt borders. Colourful medallions in some of the margins mark important subdivisions of the text.
