Middle East, Carpet, Fragment. Carpet fragment, wool knotted pile on cotton foundation, Iran, 1800-1880
Fiziksel açıklama
Warp: white cotton; Z6S; 24 threads per inch (70 per dm). Weft: white cotton; Z4S; 1 shoot after each row of knots; 11 rows of knots per inch (42 per dm). Pile: wool; 8 colours: dark red, red, yellow, dark green, green, dark blue, blue, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 warp threads; 132 knots per sq. inch (1659 per sq. dm). Side finish: left-hand side is cut. Right-hand side has 1 cord oversewn with red wool. End finish: both ends cut. Design: Main border: dark blue ground with naturalistic floral meander. Inner and outer borders: white ground with stylised flowers (red and white centres) linked by hooked, foliate meanders.
