Silk prayer rug with mid-blue ground within prayer arch, covered with thin tendrils bearing polychrome, small palmettes and tiny flowers interlaced with a pattern of arabesques and curving tendrils in flat weave, in pink, white, pale blue and brown silk and fold thread, giving a sculptured effect. Warp: light green silk; S3Z; 58 threads per inch (230 per dm); depressed. Foundation weft: light grey silk; Z2S; 2 shoots after every row of knots; 30 knots per inch (110 per dm). Brocaded weft: This is wrapped around the warp threads rather than brocaded; no loose ends are visible. Gold metal wire and 5 colours of silk: red, pink, dark brown, light blue, white. Pile: silk; 12 colours: dark red, yellow, dark green, green, light green, blue, dark pink, light pink, dark brown, light brown, grey, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; 870 knots per sq. inch (12,650 per sq. dm). Side finish: web of 6 cords woven with pink weft; the carpet weft goes around only the innermost cord on each side. End finish: 1.5 cm plain weave with pink weft and a single-knotted fringe. Design: Field: pink ground with a blue mihrab covered with thin tendrils and small flowers interlaced with brocaded arabesques. The spandrels of the arch and the two lower corners contain flowers and tendrils. There is an inscription in a panel towards the top of the mihrab. Main border: yellow ground with flowers on red edged stems woven in pile and interlaced with flatweave arabesques. Inner border: light blue ground with a floral meander Outer border: blue ground with a floral meander.
