یادداشت‌ها A fragment of woven silk with undyed linen warps (s-spun). Egyptian, Fatimid, ca. AD1000-1200. Tiraz. Geometric patterns. Tiraz. Egyptian, Fatimid, ca. AD1000-1200. The pattern is made of red silk on yellow silk. The red creates criss-crossed rows of diamond motifs across the piece. Some of the diamonds contain a circular motif which looks like a written character. This band of design is bordered with two lines on either side of thin scrolling lines, ropugly hook shaped. In the Abbasid period (AD750-1258) fabrics, called tiraz, were made in present day Iraq and Egypt. Text from the Koran was embroidered across the fabric with a line of geometric shapes above that were probably for decoration. The word came to mean honorific robes with woven or embroidered inscriptions. Text might also include information such as the name of the reigning caliph, place of production and date.
