یادداشت‌ها	A brown leather shoe, Egyptian, ca. AD300-700 (probably). Decorated with an openwork leather medallion. Acquired from the Egypt Exploration Fund. Coptic footwear was primarily made with leather, often using the turned technique, to produce a slipper or shoe with a straight sole. Slippers often included a rand at the vamp and a fibre padded sole sewn together with prominent stitching or insole tab. They show variation in the form and height of the instep. Shoes were generally slip-ons and also show variation in the form and height of the instep. Footwear was highly decorated in geometric and floral designs. Often a variety of techniques were used in combination, with the most popular being dyeing, gilding, openwork and appliquÃ©.

Fiziksel açıklama	A flat, dark leather shoe. Semi-pointed toe and round heel. Turned technique with rand. Sole: Straight, probably Right. Poor condition, ripped at tread. Leather black and cracked all over. Insole creased. Upper: One piece, black. Quarters connected at backseam with central rand piece. Topband of red leather (5mm wide) sewn with running stitch. Comes to a slight point over instep. Decorative openwork leather medallion applied to vamp. Shaped like an upside down rounded heart. Cutout oval at tip; then four cutout thick rectangles of different sizes; then a triangle pointing to the instep; in each knop of the heart are four cutout circles. The medallion has a bottom layer which may have exposed a leather of a different colour. The medallion is sewn with running stitch. Cracks at toe. Medial topband near backseam is detached. Medial area detached from sole. Cracks at lateral quarter.
