Fiziksel açıklama
Woven and brocaded silk and metal thread, satin ground, twill binding. Large central panel, 166.5 cm x 108 cm, containing a lobed arch within which is an elongated cypress tree balanced on an ornamental base shaped like an hour glass. Both tree and base have a green ground with gold metal thread patterns. The base has a few scrolling leaves and the tree contains a lozenge shaped lattice formed by leaves and a rosette. Each compartment contains a right-facing boteh. The tree is edged with flame-like leaves and terminates in a lotus like flower. The ground of the arch/niche is a densely packed small floral sprig in gold metal on a red ground and the lobed outline of the arch is formed by a wide band of gold metal thread; it also terminates in a large lotus like flower. The spandrels have a green ground with a small lattice pattern in gold metal thread, each compartment contains a 4-petalled flower head. There are 6 borders. From the inside: [1] undecorated gold metal thread [2] a chevron pattern with silver chevrons. Along the bottom part has worn away so it appears to be silver chevrons alternating with red satin. Down both sides the chevrons alternate between a geometric pattern with pale orange details and a floral pattern on red satin. Across the top there is a simple striped chevron with pale pink and a floral pattern. In the centre of this part of the border is a cartouche with a woven inscription. The cartouche is 16.5 cm wide. In each of the lower corners of this border is a small square with the green ground pattern from the spandrels. [3] as [1 [4] blue ground with single botehs inward facing along the bottom, outward facing on the other sides. [5] red ground with a rosette and leaf meander-like pattern. [6] as [1]. Warps: red silk, indeterminable twist. Weft: red silk foundation weft, indeterminable twist; pattern wefts: blue silk, Z twist, green, pale orange and pale pink silk all indeterminable twist. Metal thread: silver strip close Z-wound around white silk, Z twist and silver-gilt strip close Z-wound around deep yellow Z twist silk.
