| یادداشتها | In this letter Filippo Codispoti explained to the Italian Minister of Interior that he was born in Reggio Calabria (a town in Southern Italy) and was 17 years old before he migrated to Egypt. After years of hard work he had been able to reach a comfortable position and was running a wine and liquor shop, while his son was working as a shoemaker, and his daily pay was five and a half lire.He further explained that the civil war in Egypt had forced him to flee the country together with his wife and three children, leaving all his belongings in Egypt. He was now penniless and reduced to utter misery, and asked the government for financial help.According to governmental statistics, in 1882 there were 18,665 Italians in Egypt. The number of foreigners in Egypt totalled 90,886. |
