Notes
When I went to the Second Turkish History Congress in September 1937 as a guest of the Turkish government, what filled me with extraordinary curiosity was not only to see the unique city on the Bosphorus, but also to get to know the savior and creator of modern Turkey and to become familiar with at least a part of his monumental work. This hope of mine was abundantly fulfilled, because the exhibitions, excursions and study trips seen during the congress and afterwards gave us deep insights into what this unique man wanted and did. In addition, he always had the opportunity to see him personally, listen to him, and talk to him during meetings.
