Notes The purpose of this article is to investigate the relationship between the two basic criteria of "virtue" and "competence" in Islamic management. Surveys show that from the point of view of management experts in the West, virtues and technical and specialized competencies are considered the same, and in principle, in the Western management paradigm, they do not differentiate between these two criteria in most cases (McCauley and Lawton, 2006). In this article, an attempt has been made to answer the question of whether virtues are the same as technical qualifications and specialized competencies in Islamic management, whose fundamental values are somewhat different from Western management values, or whether there is a significant difference in Islamic management, with the use of questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, and considering the fact that the definition of virtues is somewhat different from the Islamic point of view compared to the prevailing view in the Western world. The statistical population of this research is as follows: a group of faculty members and doctoral students in the field of management in Tehran, Tarbiat Modares and Allameh Tabatabai universities, who are familiar with the basics of Islamic management, and a number of scholars from the seminary who are usually considered experts in the field of Islamic management. The findings of the research after the statistical analysis of the data show that the respondents in most cases, while distinguishing between virtues and qualifications, do not necessarily consider these two categories of criteria to be the same from the perspective of Islamic management, and contrary to the common view in the western world and consequently in the western management paradigm, they consider virtues and qualifications to be two relatively separate and somewhat different criteria.
