Notes Considering the expansion of body management in recent decades and the undeniable role of religion in people's social life, in this research, an attempt was made to investigate the role of body management in religious women. The existence of contradictions in empirical research and theoretical challenges led us to use the qualitative method and grounded theory strategy. The data of this research was conducted through interviews with 9 religious women of Mashhad. After open coding, 9 central categories were identified, which determined the causal conditions, underlying conditions, and intervening conditions affecting body management or avoiding it. The findings of this research showed that the religious society can move towards body management, especially in the public arena. The underlying platforms for the formation of such an event are religious socialization of people, their mental image of themselves, the concern of changing their appearance and the concern of social acceptance by others. The network of encouraging social relations along with a selective view of religion is part of the causal conditions of this event, and the lack of personal preoccupations plays a facilitating role in this process. Finally, we chose religious eclectic identity/religious adaptation as the theoretical core of our research.
