| Notes | Introduction and objectives Considering the small number of studies related to the existence of psychological health in athletes, this study was conducted with the aim of investigating anxiety, depression and stress in the population of athletes who participate in international competitions. Materials and methods In this descriptive-comparative study, medal winning athletes who participated in world competitions, including the Olympics, including 63 elite athletes (35 men and 28 women) with an average age of 23.95 (standard deviation 7.32) were evaluated by DASS 21 test. These people were divided into the group of active athletes and the group of inactive athletes. As a control group, 70 people matched in terms of age, sex and education, with no history of sports activities, were used. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to investigate the difference in the averages of stress, anxiety and depression variables in the studied groups. SPSS16 software was used to analyze the data. Findings The results of one-way analysis of variance comparing the mean of the three variables of stress, anxiety and depression showed that there is no statistically significant difference between the three groups of active and inactive athletes and the normal non-athlete population. The conclusion of our study shows that there is no significant difference in the variables of depression, anxiety and stress between elite athletes and the general population. |
