On the archaeological map of the Turkish Ministry of Public Education, Alacahöyük has already been marked as a place where systematic excavations should be undertaken. The Turkish Historical Society - which had opened the new period of methodical excavations in Republican Turkey - in its special session of 1935, decided to carry out excavations in Alacahöyük. An expedition, led by two of its members, the philologist Hamit Koşay and the archaeologist Remzi Oğuz Arık, was charged with almost immediately undertaking work which began on August 22 and continued until the end of November, 1935. Those interested will no doubt remember the earlier work on Alacahöyük - often written as Euyuk and sometimes Uejük.
