The sculpture garden is one of the most complete examples of the interaction of art and nature in the city, which has a background in the West and European culture, and its classical form dates back to ancient times. After the modern era, the sculpture garden is considered a new type of environmental art that experiences the relationship between man, nature and landscape. During the Qajar era, under the influence of Western art, the sculpture entered the urban space as a type of public art and was sometimes placed in private gardens as a symbol of modernity. Also, gardening, in the face of the changes in urban planning patterns in the Western style, gradually gave its place to the European park. During the Pahlavi era, with the strengthening of the modernist movement, the prosperity of park construction and the presence of statues in urban spaces increased, but no example of a statue garden in its original sense was built in Tehran. After about a decade passed since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the number of city statues gradually increased. Although the idea of placing sculptures in the public space has led to the implementation of this idea in several parks and green spaces, including the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts and the Iranian Artists' Garden, it seems that the urban examples of Tehran are still far from the structure and the original meaning of the sculpture garden. This article seeks to answer the question why the sculpture garden could not find a place in the urban space of Tehran after about a century, and by accepting the opinion that the sculpture garden is a type along the tradition of gardening and is an artistic expression of the relationship of the people of each land with nature, it concludes that by replacing the garden with a park in Iran and the destruction of the foundation of the sculpture garden, it seems that we have never been able to localize this imported phenomenon. To have a sculpture garden in the true sense and with Iranian identity.
