Notes	There are many titles of honor and authority accepted by the people of North Asia; but one of the most obvious of these is probably khan or kaghan; for this title begins to appear in comparatively earlier periods and, at the same time, continues to this day. He is remarkable not only for this long continuity, but also for being a well-known name in history. As far as I know, there is not enough research yet to show in which period and from which tribe or race this word originated. Therefore, my present study of this title will begin with an investigation of its origin.
