Istanbul University Faculty of Letters allocated the necessary funds for a scientific trip to the Research Institute of Ancient Near East Languages and Cultures, as every year. Members of the institute are Prof. Dr. H.Th. Bossert, Associate Professor. Ulugh Bahadır Alkım, Dr. Muhibbe Anstock-Darga, Dr. Franz Steinherr and B. Mustafa Kalaç departed from Istanbul on July 20, 1950 and came to Kırşehir via Ankara. In 1947, while hunting near Kırşehir, Mr. von Aulock (Istanbul) discovered a Hittite hieroglyphic inscription on a rock block. H. G. Güterbock made a brief statement about this discovery in the Journal of the Faculty of Languages, History and Geography of Ankara University (Volume V, 1947, p. 455), but he did not put the inscription in its half-space - since he had not seen it personally. Essentially, the photographs taken by Mr. von Aulock were not sufficient to publish the inscription, as Güterbock pointed out. On the other hand, Güterbock had promised in his aforementioned article that he would publish the inscription as soon as he saw it.
