Notes Background and purpose summary: Women with breast cancer are damaged in terms of the source of control related to health and metacognitive beliefs, which require therapeutic intervention. The present study was conducted with the aim of the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) on the source of control related to health and metacognitive beliefs of women with breast cancer. Materials and methods: The present study was a semi-experimental pre-test-post-test type with a control group. The statistical population consisted of women with breast cancer who referred to the health centers of Dezful city in 2019. 40 people were selected from the said population using available sampling method and were randomly replaced in two experimental (20 people) and control (20 people) groups. Treatment based on acceptance and commitment was implemented in 8 sessions of 90 minutes and once a week for the experimental group and the control group did not receive any intervention. Walston's locus of control (1994) and Wells' metacognitive beliefs (1997) questionnaires were used. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 24 software and covariance analysis method. Findings: The results showed that the treatment based on acceptance and commitment in the post-test stage had significant positive effects on increasing the locus of control related to health and metacognitive beliefs in women with breast cancer (P<0.001). Conclusion: This type of treatment can be used to reduce psychological problems and increase the source of control related to health and metacognitive beliefs in women with breast cancer.
