Notes
After the Topraktepe excavation in Sivas, a thorough research was required in the surrounding mounds in order to elucidate the pre-history of Sivas and its surroundings before the Hattians and to learn the place of this unknown region in Anatolian archaeology. After yesterday's excavations at Dartepe (next to Samsun), Maşat (south of Zile), Arslantepe and Karaz (near Erzurum), it was not right to neglect the Sivas surroundings, which are at the junction of the north-south and east-west natural roads. In addition, the large settlement area between Alişar and Sivas and Kültepe and Sivas was not emphasized at all.
