Notes Developing ideas for the characteristics of Islamic civilization or the civilizational components of Islamic society has been one of the joint efforts of Shahid Motahari and Seyyed Qutb. Shahid Motahari is one of the prominent thinkers in the Islamic Revolution and Seyyed Qutb is one of the influential thinkers in contemporary Salafism currents (including Al-Qaeda and ISIS). This article, using fundamental methodology and documentary research method, comparatively analyzes the following five components about Islamic civilization from the point of view of these two thinkers: 1. Islamic ontology and worldview; 2. The dignity and position of Islamic beliefs in the creation of civilization; 3. The role of Jihad, mobility and social reform in civilization building; 4. How Islamic civilization interacts with other civilizations and societies; 5. The quality of production and transmission of knowledge in Islamic civilization. In sum, it seems that despite some commonalities (including in ontological foundations), obvious differences in epistemological dimensions influenced by different intellectual traditions (Shiite rational thinking versus Ash'ari Kalam attitude and appearanceism) can be identified in the eyes of those two thinkers.
