Sadâkat, one of the children's newspapers whose written language is Ottoman Turkish with Old letters, was published by Tahsin in Istanbul in 1875. This newspaper, published once a week specifically for children, attracted a lot of attention when it was published. The newspaper, which published six issues under the name Sadâkat, later took the name "Etfâl", meaning children, and seventeen more issues were published under its new name. A total of twenty-three issues were published. In Sadâkat/Etfâl, many subjects are covered in simple language, from mathematics to history, from physics to religious information, from geography to animal introductions. In addition, national and universal values were tried to be conveyed to children through texts; School education was supported with the prepared questions. Sadâkat/Etfâl, which has the title of the first illustrated children's newspaper, also pioneered the children's newspapers and magazines published in the following years.
The newspaper's place of publication is Istanbul. The "Introduction" of the newspaper, whose first issue was published under the name of Sadâkat on Friday, 11 April 1291 / 15 Rebiyülevvel 1292 (23 April 1875), begins with the following lines: "Children! We received permission from the Government to publish a newspaper called "Sadakat". What is called a newspaper is a newspaper that writes all kinds of news and beautiful words about morality, decency, art and commerce to the public. "It is a reporting tool. However, children will not benefit directly from such big newspapers because they will write things that children cannot understand and will not benefit them even if they understand everything. We intended to publish such a newspaper once a week to write only things that children can benefit from." In addition, there is a text at the beginning of the newspaper saying "It is a newspaper specific to Etfale".
