Sample Text Craniosynostosis is a congenital deformity that occurs due to premature closure of one or more of the sutures in the skull. The recommended treatment for craniosynostosis is surgery. It is thought that intracranial pressure increases due to the closed sutures and this will affect the neuropsychological development of children. Abroad; Especially in Europe and America, there are studies on the cognitive and psychological development of babies born with skull deformities, both in childhood and adolescence. In addition, there are also studies on the psychological effects of this situation on family relationships. In this review, findings regarding the neuropsychological development of babies and children born with skull deformity will be discussed, and then the effects of caring for a child born with skull deformity on families will be stated. Finally, psychological support that can be given to children and families will be discussed., Craniosynostosis is a congenital condition characterized by a premature fusion of one or multiple head sutures. It has been implicated that the premature fusion leads to elevated levels of intracranial pressure causing delays in neuropsychological development. This health condition may also lead to elevated levels of family stress as parents care for their children. In this literature review, studies on neuropsychological development of children born with craniosynostosis, impact of having a child with craniosynostosis on family members and clinical implications will be discussed.
