Significant changes are observed in the agricultural sector in Türkiye in terms of production, foreign trade and employment. In Türkiye, which is an important grain producer, foreign dependency, especially in grain production, is increasing and approaching the world average. This situation also negatively reflects on wheat production, which is vital for food security. In this study, it is aimed to show what kind of spatial dynamics the geographical distribution of wheat production has by districts, taking into account the production area, production amount and efficiency, by using spatial econometric techniques. Advantageous and disadvantageous districts in terms of sustainability in wheat production for the near future have been identified. Districts that increase in terms of wheat production area, production and productivity show an advantageous situation in terms of sustainability. The districts that best meet the sustainability conditions are seen in Thrace, the west of Southeastern Anatolia and the Aegean region. The grain warehouse Central Anatolia Region was not strong enough in terms of sustainability. Spatial interaction in wheat production is weak in Central Anatolia., Turkey's agricultural sector has remarkable dynamics of change in production, international trade and employment. Turkey is an important cereal producing country. Its external dependency is rising, particularly in grain production, and is approaching the global average. This negatively affects wheat production, which plays a vital role in food security. This study aims to explore, using spatial econometric methods, the spatial dynamics of the geographical distribution of wheat production in districts considering production area, production amount and productivity. The short term sustainability of wheat producing districts was evaluated. Districts with an increasing area of wheat production and productivity are more sustainable. According to this study, the most sustainable districts are in Thrace, the western side of the South East Anatolia and the Aegean region. Central Anatolia, known as the granary of Turkey, did not have sufficiently high levels of sustainability. Central Anatolia Region had low levels of spatial interaction in wheat production.
