Sample Text The aim of the study is to examine the effects of development decisions taken on a macro scale in Turkey on the spatial and social patterns of rural settlements. Within the scope of the study, the problems caused by the acceptance of the rural population as urban population with a legal change were investigated and an examination was carried out to determine the changes that the new housing spaces produced for rural areas within the scope of Tarımköy could have on the quality of life of the villagers. (TOKİ) Tarımköy type projects, which were produced to meet the rural housing deficit in the Balıkesir region (Marmara region), and the village houses in the Karyağmaz neighborhood in the Dursunbey district of Balıkesir province were evaluated in the context of space use quality. The method of the study consists of three stages. In the first stage, the problems related to the social and spatial structure caused by the acceptance of the rural population as urban population by Law No. 6360 were determined through observation, semi-structured interviews and drawings made on site. In the second stage, the space use quality criteria for rural housing were determined within the framework of the literature and the physical environment of Karyağmaz village was discussed in line with these criteria. In the last stage, the data obtained about the social structure were evaluated in line with Amartya Sen's (1979) capability approach, which evaluates the quality of life of individuals. It has been observed that rural settlements change scale in the process of transforming into urban neighborhoods, and that the relationship between nature and humans moves to a different level with the change in the living spaces of the villagers., The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of macro-scale development decisions in Turkey on the spatial and social patterns of rural settlements. The newly produced village houses located in Karyağmaz village of Balikesir province were evaluated in terms of space use quality produced to meet the rural housing in the Balikesir region (Marmara region). The method of this study consists of three stages. Firstly, to identify the social and spatial problems caused by acceptance of the rural population into a city population under Law no. 6360 were examined through observation, semi-structured interviews and mapping in the study area. Secondly, the criteria of spatial utilization quality for rural housing were determined based on literature review and physical environment in Karyağmaz village was analyzed based on these criteria. Finally, social structural data from the village were evaluated in terms of capability approach by Amartya Sen (1979) to assess quality of life of individuals. It has been observed that the scale of rural settlements changed in the process of transformation from rural settlements to urban neighborhoods and that the relationship between nature and humans has been adversely changed.
