The seven island republics, known in Ottoman history and documents as (Republic of Algerian Mujtamia) or (Republic of Aljaridian Mujtamia) emerged following the French occupation of Egypt and were accepted to be under the protection of the Ottoman state in accordance with the Treaty signed in the first year of the nineteenth century, that is, in March of 1800 AD. Following the occupation of Egypt by the French in 1213 H. 1798 A.D., Turkey declared war on France and dispatched forces by land and sea to take back Egypt, and also made an alliance with England and Russia, which were enemies of the French.
