Universitäts Bibliothek Tübingen
The University Library of Tübingen (Universitätsbibliothek Tübingen) is one of the oldest and most important academic libraries in Germany, founded in 1477 at the same time as the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. As the university's main library, it is a central information and lending center serving both students and academics, as well as the local community. The library system consists of a central main building (on Wilhelmstraße) and approximately more than 80 departmental (institute) libraries. Its total collection exceeds more than 6 million media items (books, magazines, electronic resources, etc.). It is famous for its invaluable historical collections as well as modern academic resources; these collections include more than 2,600 medieval manuscripts, many rare first edition books (incunabula) and personal archives (Nachlässe) of important scholars.
