The Orient-Institut Beirut (OIB)

OIB (Orient-Institut Beirut) library is a research and reference library specializing in Near and Middle Eastern Studies. To facilitate research, it offers a collection of more than 140,000 volumes of books, magazines and newspapers, as well as more than 100,000 electronic resources (E-books, journals and databases), accessible through the OIB network. In particular, the Max Weber Digital Library Collection included in our catalog offers a wide range of multidisciplinary Humanities. Most of these assets are also Open Access. The majority of our collection is in Arabic, followed by English, French and German. The collection also includes literature in Armenian, Hebrew, Persian and Syriac. The historical reading room offers reference works for academic purposes and is equipped with electrical outlets for laptops and wireless internet access for registered users. The library provides a quiet environment for study and access to OIB's garden terrace for relaxation. It also serves as a social space for public events organized by OIB. A computer is available for visitors to browse the OPAC (catalog) only. In addition, the library provides scanning facilities and a microfilm reader. OIB catalogs can be accessed from anywhere. We recommend that you register to our library to request books and use our library. Individuals affiliated with the institution, including OIB researchers, fellows and interns, can benefit from instant registration. OIB research assistants and OIB fellows-in-residence can benefit from our agreements with AUB (American University of Beirut) Libraries and Haigazian University Library.
