The Afghanistan Digital Library

The Afghanistan Digital Library (ADL), a project led by New York University (NYU) Libraries, is an open-access platform that aims to recover, preserve and digitize Afghanistan's first six decades of printed cultural heritage. The library covers the period from 1871, when the first known publication in the country was made, to 1930; It aims to save rare books, printed documents and newspapers (periodicals) that are in danger of extinction due to decades of conflict. Collecting materials from private collectors, the British Library, NYU and the National Archives in Kabul, the project not only provides a centralized online database for these extremely rare texts, but also aims to create a comprehensive national bibliography of Afghanistan's early publishing history.
