MGIMO-UNIVERSITY RARE BOOK MUSEUM

MGIMO (Moscow State Institute of International Relations) Rare Books Museum is a digital platform that brings online a rich collection of more than 21 thousand rare and valuable documents, both local and foreign, dating from the 13th century to the early 20th century. The collection of this museum, which opened in 1995, was inherited from the famous library of the Moscow Oriental Institute, whose roots date back to the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages, which was founded in 1815 and was later incorporated into the university. On the site, there are 13th-19th books written in Arabic, Persian and Turkish languages. In addition to century Islamic manuscripts, first edition works of well-known Russian historians (Karamzin, Klyuchevsky, etc.), jurists and diplomats can also be examined. On this platform, where more than 300 manuscripts were digitized in 2010, users can view electronic versions of the works, read catalog descriptions and take a virtual tour of the museum halls.
