The Queen's University of Belfast Libraries

Queen's University Belfast, commonly known as Queen's University Belfast (QUB), is a public research university chartered in 1845 as part of the Queen's University of Ireland and opened in 1849 in Belfast (Northern Ireland, United Kingdom). With its origins in the Belfast Academical Institution of 1810, the university was initially established as "Queen's College, Belfast" for Catholic and Presbyterian students (as an alternative to Trinity College, Dublin); Its main building, the Lanyon Building, was built during this period. When the Royal University of Ireland was abolished by the Irish Universities Act of 1908, today's independent institution, Queen's University of Belfast, emerged. Now offering nearly 300 academic programmes, Queen's is a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities and is associated with two Nobel laureates and a Turing Award winner.
