"J'ai joint au texte [de la Moallaka de Lébid] le commentaire entier de Zouzéni"--"Avertissement" by the editor, page vii. Woodcut headpiece by Papillon, dated 1773. Printed in Arabic types of the "Imprimerie Royale", which were based on Arab or Turkish specimens of calligraphy, and originally cut for François Savary de Brèves, French ambassador to the Ottoman Court in Constantinople (1591-1605), for use in Savary's own printing house; see Encyclopaedia of Islam (new edition), volume VI, page 799. After Savary's death in 1627, other European printers continued to use his Arabic types, which were eventually acquired by Cardinal Richelieu for the French government. See also G.
