The manuscript was in the ownership of Mamlūk dignitaries as evidenced by two dated notes on fol. 34v (12 Ǧumādā l-āḫira 817 [29 August 1414], and 15 Muḥarram 819 [15 March 1416]), the second mentioning the name of Aḥmad ibn Yaḥyā Yašbak, son of the famous chamberlain Yaḥyā ibn Yašbak al-Faqīh, Begins with: (12b) In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and may his prayers and peace be upon Muhammad and his family. This is the book [Equestrianism] with the outlines of jihad for the sake of God Almighty. God, Blessed and Most High, said regarding those who strive in His cause. And do not think that those who are killed in the way of God are dead, but rather alive with their Lord, provided for (13a) The first chapter of the Book of Equestrianism, about riding a horse and dismounting with a spear, Copyist note: (34b) The dates have been fulfilled for the kings, and praise be to God alone, and God is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs. Ends with: (31b) This is the last of the chapters in the science of horsemanship, so know, you who have reached these chapters, and have mercy, and exchange your effort and money in the service of the mujahideen and the masters of their virtues. You will attain the pride of this world and the bliss of the hereafter, for the bliss of this world with the bliss of the hereafter is a torment, and God Almighty is the Granter of all good through His grace, generosity, and mercy (34b) He died in Kabanga in Dhul-Hijjah of the aforementioned year, and a great earthquake occurred on Thursday, the twenty-third of Dhul-Hijjah, in the year seven hundred and two, and the earthquake continued to recur until the end of Muharram, in the year seven hundred and three. furūsīya, on fols. 31v-34v two epistles entitled “Ḥikāyat ibtidā’ ʿuddat al-ğihād” and “Tawārīḫ salāṭīn Miṣr
