A. Pack to Mr. R. G. Carter, Exchange and Gift Section, 21 Hatcher Library North, describing the "enclosed parchment leaf from a volume of the Koran (9th century)... recently discovered in the course of cleaning out the office of the late Warren E. Blake, for long a professor of Greek. Nothing is known about how or why it had come into his possession. The writing on the folder looks more like that of Professor Emeritus James E. Dunlap, of Ann Arbor, who used to receive such leaves from the university bindery and possibly other sources, as he has always practised Latin palaeography..." ; brown folder with inscription in black ink "IX Century parchment coran leaf" and in pencil "('Kufic' hand)" ; folded sheet of writing paper with identification "Koran : Surah IV : 74-75" and transcription in Arabic as well as English translation for text of recto all in black ink, perhaps provided by James A. Bellamy (1925-2015), professor of Arabic literature., Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 1071, Origin: Script (D.I) would suggest 9th century (or possibly early 10th century) as proposed by Déroche (cf. The Abbasid Tradition, p.36-37 and George, The Rise of Islamic calligraphy, p.91).

Isolated folio fragment from an Early ʿAbbāsid manuscript copy of the Qur'ān carrying Sūrat al-Nisāʼ verses 74-75. Compare what appears to be a fragment from the same codex now in the collections of the University of Michigan Museum of Art, UMMA 1970/2.109, a gift of professor Kamer Aga-Oglu for the James Marshall Plumer Memorial Collection. The UMMA folio also carries text from Sūrat al-Nisāʼ, opening a few words into verse 79.
