May God forgive him, his parents, his brother, and its owner. And to his reader, and to his supervisor, and to all believers, and... He said, “Amen,” and he prayed... Muhammad, his family, and all his companions.”, Collation: i, III+1 (7), 22 IV (183), I (185), II (189), i ; chiefly quaternions; middle-of-the-quire marks appear in the form of oblique strokes in the upper outer corner of the left hand leaf for nearly every quire apart from the first, tenth, and final two quires; catchwords present; pagination in pencil, Western numerals., Layout: Written in 21 lines per page; frame-ruled (impression of ruling board evident)., Script: Naskh; elegant, graceful Persian hand; Partially serifed with left-sloping head serif on lām of definite article and alif of lām alif ligature; sweeping tails on final nūn, yāʼ, etc. ; kāf mashkūlah used occasionally for final kāf and initial kāf is often written with kāf ṣaghīrah (hamzah-like form) above a vertical stroke; interesting hāʼ mudghamah looking like two inverted commas, one atop the other; some pointing lacking., Decoration: Exquisite illuminated headpiece (ʻunwān / sarlawḥ) accompanies opening on fol.1b, (this leaf is reinforced, adhered to the reverse, with a cream (pale yellow) stock, but is detached from textblock); It consists of two rectangular panels (placed one above the other); lower rectangular panel contains a splendid cartouche bordered by a gold fillet carrying the basmalah in gold, foliated 'Eastern Kufic' (New Abbasid or New Style) script, over a fine arabesque in green and brown on a blue field; the cartouche is flanked by floral pendants evoking an iris or calyx surrounded by arabesques in pink on a field of dark blue; This panel is bordered by a frame consisting of gold, green, and black bands and fillets; the upper rectangular panel bears an intricate vegetable pattern in gold, green, pink, and white on a field of blue and is surmounted by vertical stalks (tīgh) in blue and pink; rule-border consisting of a series of gold, black and blue fillets found throughout the text; polychrome with section headings and keywords (he said, if you said, you said, etc.) in gold, occasional underlining in red in the early part of the text., Support: non-European (likely Persian) laid paper of substantial thickness and many undissolved fibers; orientation of laid lines varies; Laid lines appear to be spaced approximately 12 per cm. and chain lines are faintly visible and may be grouped (see fol.43); Flyleaves in laid paper with single chain lines running horizontally and spaced roughly 26-28 mm.
