[12], Karamanlı Turkish is a dialect of Anatolian Turkish, spoken by the Greek Orthodox Christians in Karaman region of Ottoman Turkey. While Ottoman Turkish is written in the Arabic script, Karamanlı Turkish is written in the Greek alphabet. The term is derived from the 13th century Turkish Principality of Karaman in Central Anatolia. Karamanlı Greek Orthodox citizens of Turkey, and Turkish and Muslim citizens of Greece were exchanged as part of the Greek-Turkish population exchange of 1923.
