Notes
Ms. codex., Title from rubricated heading at opening on p.2., Incipit: “Glory be to You, O God, who overflows with generosity and existence, who is the Granter of grace and light, who heals the diseases of the breasts... But after what is the best of happiness and means and the chief of good deeds and virtues is the acquisition of true, divine wisdom and the completion of theoretical power by the acquisition of true sciences and certain knowledge...”, Explicit: “So focus on the medicine of contentment and to your Lord, so desire His love. The Book has been fulfilled.”, Collation: Pages between sections left blank with some serving as 'title pages' (see pp.41, 81, 113) ; pagination in pencil, Hindu-Arabic numerals through p.39; at p.40 begins pagination in pencil, Western numerals, presumably supplied during digitization ; leaves left blank or partially blank between sections., Layout: Written mainly in 11 lines per page., Script: Ruqʻah ; careful, compact hand in a medium line; serifless and freely ligatured with mainly closed counters, effect of inclination to the right and of words descending to baseline, pointing somewhat careless and in strokes rather than distinct dots., Decoration: Text executed entirely in red ink., Support: Machine wove paper of two different types, one beige in color, the other medium cream., Binding: Boards covered in dark green cloth with dark green leather over spine (quarter binding); pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetable pattern in green; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "Message of appearances by Shirazi | J.H.D." ; sewing difficult to examine; stuck-on endbands (blue and white stripe); overall in fairly good condition., Former shelfmark: Mich. Island. Sample Text
Careful copy of an apparent abridgment of Kitāb al-Maẓāhir al-ilāhīyah, a philosophical work by Mullā Ṣadrā Shīrāzī (d.1641), renowned philosopher of the Ṣafavid period, bound up with a section labeled "المبدأ والمعاد" likely intended as the third section of Isl.
