Notes Ms. codex., Title from inscription on 'title page' (p.1)., Incipit: [matn al-Ishārāt] “These are references to principles and warnings based on sentences by which the one who has access to insight may gain insight. The clearest of them will not benefit the one who finds it difficult, and trust in the one in whose hand is success...” [Ḥāshiyah ʻalá matn al-Ishārāt] “The reference is the name of the issue that requires evidence, and the warning is the name of what is other than that, and the principles are the general laws from which the provisions of its parts are known...”, Explicit: [matn al-Ishārāt] “Something for the sight to fight until it sees the image of the unseen”, Collation: Pages between sections left fully or partially blank, some serving as section 'title pages' (see pp.21, 57, 109, 153); pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization., Layout: Highly variable, though with matn in central written area ranging from 11-19 lines per page and glosses arranged in margins., Script: Ruqʻah ; quick, compact hand in a thin to medium line (varies); serifless and freely ligatured with mainly closed counters, slight effect of words descending to baseline, pointing somewhat careless and in strokes rather than distinct dots, final yāʼ usually unpointed., Decoration: Opening sections entirely in blue ink; elsewhere matn in black or blue ink and glosses rubricated (see pp.100, 102, 130-150) ; in final sections both matn and glosses in red (from pp.103-107, 109-130, 151 to close)., Support: Wove paper of at least two different types., Binding: Boards covered in dark green cloth with dark green leather over spine (quarter binding); pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetable pattern in green; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "Passenger | On board | Signals | Ibn Sina | J.H.D." ; sewing difficult to examine; stuck-on endbands (blue and white stripe); overall in fairly good condition., Former shelfmark: Mich. Island. Ms. temp. no. 78, Origin: Lacks dated scribal colophon, though likely copied in Egypt in the late 1930s and eventually bound for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974). Likely in the hand of the glossator "A A" who apparently executed other manuscripts bound for Heyworth-Dunne, namely Isl. Ms. 905 (completed in 1939), Isl. Ms. 910, Isl.
