Notes Description: Written in thuluth and generic scripts ; first work fully vocalized, others partially vocalized ; paper is unglazed and very brittle. Discolored. Some leaves damaged. Edges are ragged; some water damage.Incipit: [Poem] بدأت بسم الله والحمد اولا - Contains a prayer, a religious poem, a commentary on a Sufi chant, and an additional unidentified leaf. The poem and commentary are bound together.
Sample Text Ibn al-ʻArabī, 1165-1240.Sharḥ Jaljalūtīyah.[Browse]ابن العربي، 1165-1240.شرح جلجلوتية.[Browse] - 1. Duʻāʼ barrāt. A brief prayer for forgiveness. The petitioner asks to be inscribed in the book of the righteous.2. fol. 1a-7a: [Poem for Muhammad]. A seventy-line poem rhyming in lām-alif and having a Sufi theme. The poem calls upon Allāh to give his blessing to Muḥammad the Prophet. At the top of the first page of text is a square divided into 49 sections (7 x 7) containing various letters and symbols.3. fol. 7b-14b: Sharḥ Jaljalūtīyah. A commentary on a prayer attributed to ʻAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib explaining the mystical power of the basmala and the names of Allah based on the numerical values of the letters used to spell them. A guide to the use of such knowledge to achieve certain ends. Several numerical squares.
