Notes Consists of research files, primarily government records, of scholar and author Jacques Roumani (1944-2016) on Libya during the period of Italian colonization.This collection consists of research files of scholar and author Jacques Roumani (1944-2016) on Libya during the period of Italian colonization. They primarily include government reports and correspondence, both original records (largely carbon copies) and photocopies of original records from Italian ministries such as Le Reconquista Militare and Istituzione del Ministero delle Colonie that document Italian administration and Libyan political, religious, and social activities. Records include British occupying force orders, Italian decrees and political military documents, instructions for negotiations, citizenship, land administration, laws, property confiscation, and information regarding the Senusiyya. The collection also includes newspaper clippings, maps, copies of articles, and Roumani's notes. While most of the materials are in Italian, some are in Arabic or English. The collection’s description is primarily based on an appraisal inventory as well as some description by Jacques Roumani. Topics that are explicitly associated with particular folders may also be represented elsewhere in the collection.
