Notes Letter regarding the priestly faction in Muscat, the supreme Government there and the need of a 'fair expression' from Oman of whom they would prefer to see as Sultan as well as the likelihood that the Viceroy would take the opportunity to resume the British Government's previous policy with Muscat.Also discussed in the letter are the progress of the telegraph along the Mekran Coast; Merewether's beliefs that Persian relations should be the responsibility of the India Government; the need for a proper definition of the eastern boundary with Persia; the growing awareness in England of Russia's proceedings in Central Asia; and observations on his return to Jacobabad and particularly how much the trees in the avenues have grown in ten to twelve years since he was last there. | 2 folios | more | less
