Notes A short treatise on the construction and use of the astrolabe by Bahā’ al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Ḥusayn al-‘Āmilī (Baha al-Din Muhammad ibn Husayn al-Amili; d. 1621). The scribe, Ibn ‘Abd al-Raḥīm Abū al-Qāsim Yaḥyá al-Astar’ābādī (Ibn Abd al-Rahim Abu al-Qasim Yahya al-Astarabadi), states in the colophon that he copied the text from the author’s autograph (f. 12r, line 6).Begins (f. 7v, lines 2-3): Degrees rose Your might over our limited comprehension, and the minutes of your kingdom are sanctified over the relationship of our lost days, all that you have established. Ends (f. 12r, lines 2-5): ... So the criterion remains at the time when the sun reaches it in the direction of the Qiblah. And to you, this is the last thing we wanted to mention in these papers. And blessings be upon the Master of Creation ever, Muhammad and his pure family. Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds. Colophon (f. 12r, lines 6-8): Written by Its author, may God perpetuate the shadows of his benefit, abundance, and guidance, wrote on the corners of the people of his time with his benevolence and chest (?), and its poor writer, to the mercy of God, King Al-Hadi, Ibn Abd al-Rahim Abu al-Qasim Yahya al-Astarabadi, he pardoned them | Ff. 7v-12r | more | less
