Notes Letter from Stephen Babington, Secretary to the Government at Bombay Castle to Lieutenant William Bruce, Resident at Bushire, acknowledging the receipt of a letter sent on 2 September and informing that the ship of the pirate Seyd Mahamed Akilla [Sayyid Muhammad Aqil] had arrived at Muscat under the command of his brother and was about to proceed up the Persian Gulf to Bushire and Bussora [Basra].In enclosure copy of a letter sent from Edward [Struttle], Advocate General in Bengal to Neil Benjamin Edmonston, Chief Secretary to Government on 22 June 1812, containing his account of the piracy act committed by Seyd Mahamed Akilla, commander of the [ Mahadoc], formerly the Pigeon,against the American Ship Essexand its cargo in 1806 at Camaran [Kamaran], near Hoduida [Al Hudaydah, Yemen]. All the crew was murdered with the exception of an 'American boy', and Seyd Mahamed Akilla was therefore guilty of piracy whether or not the American boy was able to witness against him. | 3 folios | more | less
