Notes
This file contains correspondence, contractual agreements, and commentary on contractual agreements relating to the initiation of oil exploration and drilling operations in Kuwait. The correspondence consists mainly of exchanges between the British Political Residency in the Persian Gulf, the British Political Agent in Kuwait, and the Colonial Office in Whitehall, London. Many of the papers discuss the controversy surrounding the entry of the Eastern and General Syndicate Limited into competition with the Anglo-Persian Oil Company for oil contracts in the Persian Gulf. Arabic documents are primarily letters from the Ruler of Kuwait. | 1 file (192 Folios) | The papers are arranged in approximate chronological order from the front to the rear of the file. | Foliation: the main foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the inside front cover with 1, and terminates at the inside back cover with 194; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio. An additional foliation sequence is present in parallel between ff 6-189; these numbers are also written in pencil, but are not circled.A previous foliation sequence, which is also circled, has been superseded and therefore crossed out. | more | less
