Notes The letter is a covering letter, enclosing the translation of a report (folios 266-68) of statistical information, sent to Kemball by the British Agent at Sharjah, dated 15 November 1854. The statistical report relates to the Government of India’s request for information on the principal estates (people and places) under the political jurisdiction of the Persian Gulf Resident.The first part of the report is a list of the names of the Sheikhs of Oman, with details of their ages, heirs, number of fighting men, and revenue. The list includes the shaikhs of Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi], Debai [Dubai]. Joasmee [i.e. the towns of Ra's al-Khaymah and Sharjah, ruled by Shaikh Sultan bin Saqr Āl Qāsimī], Ejmaum [Ajman] and Amulgavine [Umm al-Qaywayn].
