Notes Three propositions to be added to Book Five of Euclid's (Εὐκλείδης, Euclid; fl. 300 BC) Elements(Στοιχεῖα; Origins) by the astronomer and mathematician al-‘Abbās ibn Sa‘īd al-Jawharī (Al-Abbas ibn Sa‘id al-Jawharī, fl. ca 830).Begins (f. 157r, 2-5): These are additions by Abbas ibn Sa‘id. In the fifth article of Euclid’s book, we want to show that the quantities are in the ratio of one to the second. And the third to the fourth are those that if the first and third were taken equal times and equal times were taken for the second and fourth, that is, the folds would have been found to be multiples of the first and third...Ends (f. 158v, lines 1-4):... His proof is that E is more relative to H than R to T and E and R are equal folds, no and C is equal to H than C to T and H and W are equal folds for the magnitudes of B and D and Fa is more relative to B than C to D and that is what we wanted to show (Colophon (f.) 158v, line 4):...
